2017 Run For Pie Thanksgiving Day Race-Race Day Details-Important

The days and weeks leading up to Run for Pie were going well.  We had volunteers and medical team in place, shirts and of course pie ready to go, bananas, water, a great forecast for race morning.  The truck was loaded up and ready to go the day before the race.  All we had to do was show up, unload the truck, and make a fantastic race happen.  This was shaping up to be an excellent race morning.  I couldn't wait.
And then my team and I met the morning of the race, to a broken lock on the back of our truck.  Uh oh.
As many of you may know, our race timing equipment was stolen the morning of the race.  Unfortunately, we lost our race timing equipment that is used to capture start and finishing times, so we were not able to collect any race times for the race.  Additionally, our new race archway (race morning we found our old one, with lots of duct tape keeping it held together), PA system (luckily we borrowed another one from a friend that morning, thanks Gina!), men's Run for Pie shirts, and inflatable turkey (yes, inflatable turkey), was solen from us.  
This was a huge dissapointment.  
This means there was no timing, and therefore, no race results.
And I thought, "What am I going to do now?"
Put on a fantastic run anyway.  That was the anwer.
The good news?  Just about everyone came out for a run, and had a great day!  We had music, friends, sunshine, and of course - the Pie!!  And so we had a great day.  This just shows what an awesome community we are all a part of.  Thank you to everyone who came out to the run, had fun, ate pie, and celebrated together.  Thank you for being such a positive community, as we really did not receive any negative comments about not timing the race, but in fact, had very positive comments about how much fun everyone had.  This is meaningful, and this is what keeps me excited about running and our community.  Thank you for helping to create a really fun and exciting morning.

Online sign-ups available until Tuesday evening 7:00 pm. Wednesday and race day sign ups will be accepted at Fleet Feet Aptos during bib pick up hours or at the race venue race morning unless race sells out. (Race has sold out last 2 years)  Cash only please.  

Come join us on Thanksgiving morning for what has become one of Santa Cruz County's favorite holiday traditions - Run For Pie Thanksgiving Day Race. Bring the whole family out to run or walk a 5K or 10K distance in the beautiful Forest of Nisene Marks State Park. All registered racers get a mini pumpkin pie at the finish. This event will benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank. Be sure to sign up today as this race sells out early every year!


Bibs can be picked up at Fleet Feet Sports Aptos in the Rancho Del Mar Shopping Center. Race shirt sizes are first come first serve at Bib Pick Up. You may pick up a Bib for a friend of family member as long as you know which distance they are doing.  Bib Pick Up times are as follows:

Monday November 20th     3:00 pm to 6:00 pm

Tuesday November 21st    Noon- 6:00 pm

Wednesday November 22nd  10:00 am-3:00 pm

Very limited bib pick up will be available race morning in Aptos Village Park. Shirt size preference availability not guaranteed. 7:30 am-8:15 am

Free 1K Kids Race Registration is required. You can register your child at bib pick up or race morning.

Where: Aptos Village Park in Aptos, CA


There is no access to Aptos Village Park parking on race morning. Free and plentiful parking at the Rancho Del Mar Shopping Center just a short way from the venue. There is NO Parking on Granite Way, Epicenter Parking lot, or in the lots adjacent to the park as some of those businesses are open and we are good neighbors. Parking attendant at race venue can assist. Please be kind and courteous to our volunteers just trying to provide a safe race.

When: Thursday, November 23th, 2017  The 5K and 10K races start promptly at 9:00 am!  Kids FREE 1K Race starts at 8:40 am.

Cost: $38 for the 5K and $48 for the 10K.

All races will be professionally chip timed, and awards will be given to the overall male and female winners of each distance as well as age group winners. 

Every participant will also receive a 2017 Run For Pie Race t-shirt, a mini pumpkin pie and entry into the AWESOME PIE RAFFLE!

Race Charity Beneficiary

The race benefits the Second Harvest Food Bank. Please bring canned food items and deposit in the receptacles at Bib Pick Up and on race morning. Canned food and monetary donations will be collected at the Bib Pick Up at Fleet Feet Sports Aptos. Please consider donating for those in need.
